Whitney My Love

Whitney, My Love was the first romance novel from Judith Mc Naught I read…and I fell in love instantly. Whitney, My Love lives on as "the ultimate love story, one you can dream about forever" (Romantic Times).

It’s a wonderful love story….fast-paced and exciting - a novel rich with laughter, tears, and the power of dreams that I would read to it again and again to savor its beauty and majesty.

Description

Under the dark, languorous eyes of Clayton Westmoreland, the Duke of Claymore, Whitney Stone grew from a saucy hoyden into a ravishingly sensual woman. Fresh from her triumphs in Paris society, she returned to England to win the heart of Paul, her childhood love . . . only to be bargained away by her bankrupt father to the handsome, arrogant duke. Outraged, she defies her new lord. But even as his smoldering passion seduces her into a gathering storm of desire, Whitney cannot -- and will not -- relinquish her dream of perfect love.

Chapter One

Lord Edward Gilbert cast a skeptical glance at his wife. "Sweet disposition?" he echoed in amused disbelief. "That isn't what her father said in his letter."

As a diplomat attached to the British Consulate in Paris, Lord Gilbert was a master of hints, evasions, innuendoes, and intrigues. But in his personal life, he preferred the refreshing alternative of blunt truth. "Allow me to refresh your memory," he said, groping in his pockets and retrieving the letter from Whitney's father. He perched his spectacles upon his nose, and ignoring his wife's grimace, he began to read:

"'Whitney's manners are an outrage, her conduct is reprehensible. She is a willful hoyden who is the despair of everyone she knows and an embarrassment to me. I implore you to take her back to Paris with you, in the hope that you may have more success with the stubborn chit than I have had.'"

Edward chuckled. "Show me where it says she's 'sweet-tempered.'"

Romantically speaking....

I love romance novels! I especially love historical romances. Maybe because the historical romance novel are based on the romances of the past. They are either true or myths … but none is matter when you have been romantically spellbound by it!!

Here’s a peek of historical romance novel magic and fascination:

Historical romance is set before World War II. Most of my historical romance novels are medieval romances. These romances are typically set between 938-1485.

Women in the medieval time periods were often considered as no more than property who were forced to live at the mercy of their father, guardian or the king. Always a lady, the heroin must use her wits and will and find a husband who will accept her need to be independent, yet still protect her from the dangers of the time.

Then come the hero….the hero is almost a knight who first learns to dominant, and the heroine, despite the gains she made, is usually still in a subordinate position. However, that position is her choice, made ‘the sake of and with protection from an adoring lover, whose main purpose in life is to fulfill his beloved’s wishes”

I couldn’t agree more with Wikipedia....it’s precisely why I adore historical romance, the muscular knight of shining amour and the ever headstrong yet charming lady.
